Iranian women rowers secure 2024 Paris berths
TEHRAN – Fatemeh Mojalal in the single sculls and Mahsa Javar and Zeynab Norouzi in the lightweight women’s double secured their berth at the 2024 Olympic Games.
In the 2024 World Rowing Asian and Oceanian Olympic and Paralympic Qualification Regatta held in Chungju, South Korea, the Iranian rowers grabbed their seat to the Paris Olympics.
The women’s single sculls A-Final was easily won by the reigning Olympic silver medalist, Anna Prakaten, now representing Uzbekistan, with 7:31.28 ahead of Japan’s Shiho Yonekawa 7:35.93 and Fatemeh Mojallal (7:37.07) after the 2,000-meter race. Behind them, in order, came in Joanie Delgaco of the Philippines, Hue Pham Thi of Vietnam and Aisyah Mohamed Rafa’ee of Singapore.
The lightweight women’s double sculls was won by Japan, just two seconds ahead of Iran who had dominated the race until the final stages with 7:04.78, allowing both crews to secure a spot for Paris. Uzbekistan team came third.
